Philanthropic organisation have helped in so many areas provide social amenities to so many communities, providing education support fund, health support fund, community relief material in cases of disaster to any affected community and so many others.
This write will be focusing in identifying some of the organisation and individual behind so of the most charitable and philanthropic organisations we have in this country Nigeria and appreciate the good work they have been doing in the life of many people.
List of Philanthropic Foundations in Nigeria
1. TY Danjuma Foundation
TY Danjuma Foundation was founded and created by General Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma a former minister of Defence under the President Olusegun Obasanjo administration. General Danjuma has he his fondly called is also an astute businessman who owned so many successful businesses among them are South Atlantic Petroleum, he also owns Nigeria America Line a company that is into shipping.
Having becoming a successful business man, TY Danjuma decided to give back to the society by forming the TY Danjuma Foundation which was created in December 2008.
The foundation principal is aimed at providing basic amenities to communities and also help alleviate poverty by empowering the less privileged, they also help funding education of thousands of children and young adults, they also help provide free medical aid to indigent people.
The TY Danjuma Foundation is currently partnering with over 50 NGOs throughout Nigeria, and with the support and co-operation of 36 state governors.
2. The Tony Elumelu Foundation
The Tony Elumelu Foundation was founded by Tony Onyemaechi Elumelu. Tony Elumelu was born on 22 March 1963, he happens to a Nigeria Economist, entrepreneur and notable philanthropist foundation called Tony Elumelu Foundation.
Before forming the foundation he happens to be the chairman of Heirs Holding, The united Bank for Africa, he also a national honour by being the honour of being the commander of the order of the Niger and also Member of the order of the federal Republic.
Following his retirement from the United Bank for Africa he founded the Tony Elumelu Foundation which as a primary goal and objective of driving Africa’s economic development by enhancing the competitiveness of the Africa private sector.
3. Rose of Sharon Foundation
Rose of Sharon was founded by the richest woman in Africa named Folorunsho Alakija. Folorunsho Alakija (born 15 July 1951) is a billionaire businesswoman who has business interest in fashion, real estate, printing and oil, and gas.
She is the managing director of rose of Sharon group of companies that has so many subsidiary such as Rose of Sharon prints and promotions limited, digital reality prints limited and also famfa oil and gas limited.
Her philanthropic foundation called Rose of Sharon foundation aims and objectives is focused mainly on helping and giving aid to widows and orphans through scholarships and business grants.
4. Aliko Dangote Foundation
Aliko Dangote Foundation was founded by the richest man in Nigeria and Africa Alhaji Aliko Dangote. Aliko Dangote was born on 10 April 1957, he is a Nigerian business magnate and philanthropic who founded the Aliko Dangote Group which happens to the largest industrial business conglomerate in Africa.
His business interest span across real estate, oil and gas, FMCG, His business interest is worth millions of dollars and as at 2002 he was named the 88 richest person in the world.
His philanthropic cut across not only Nigeria alone, but Africa and the world at large. He his among the board of Clinton Health Access Initiative, he created an endowment fund totalling $1.25 Billion to the Dangote Foundation this help in the area of health, education and economic empowerment.
5. Made in Africa Foundation
Made in Africa Foundation was founded by Kola Aluko, he was born on 20 October, 1969 in Lagos state a south western part of Nigeria. Kola is an astute Nigeria Business with business interest in African Infrastructure development and aviation, oil and gas.
He is the Chief Executive Officer of Atlantic Energy this is an indigenous private upstream oil and gas company that is focused in exploration and production in Nigeria, he also founded Fossil resources a company that is also into oil and gas he sit as the CEO of the company.
He founded the Made in Africa Foundation that helps set up to support and fund master plans and feasibility studies for transformational and large scale developments and infrastructure projects across the African continent.
