A mentor can be described as that person who as experience in a particular field of interest and has also succeeded in that field.

A mentor is a person who has succeeded in the field in which you are trying to succeed. Many people do not have the time or desire to become mentors, thus, hiring a professional mentor can save you the time and hassle of learning to be a more effective in what you do.
